Market Review
The Jakarta Composite Index closed lower on Thursday, June 18, 2026, slipping 0.78% (48.40 points) to 6,172.34 after touching an intraday low of 6,073.72. Selling in banking heavyweights including BBRI, BBCA and TLKM weighed on the benchmark, while basic materials names such as AMMN and BRPT cushioned losses. Foreign investors stayed cautious as Bank Indonesia raised its policy rate by 25 basis points to 5.75% to defend the rupiah.
Asian markets were mixed. Japan’s Nikkei rose 1.65% and South Korea’s KOSPI gained 2.25%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.59% and Thailand’s SET edged down 0.13%. Sentiment was supported by easing oil prices following the interim US-Iran deal, though hawkish signals from new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh kept regional bond yields elevated.
European markets opened broadly flat. The Stoxx 600 was little changed while the FTSE 100 slipped 0.88%, as investors weighed cooling crude prices against the prospect of higher-for-longer global interest rates.
