MARKET REVIEW
The Jakarta Composite Index closed marginally higher, edging up 0.04% to 6,042 in a range-bound session. Basic-materials and cyclical shares provided support, offsetting weakness in healthcare, industrials and financials. Trading value reached 14.19 trillion rupiah, while the rupiah firmed slightly to 18,092 per US dollar and government bond yields eased, after softer-than-expected US inflation data tempered fears of aggressive Federal Reserve tightening.
Asian markets rallied. South Korea’s KOSPI surged 6.24% to 7,284 and the Nikkei 225 climbed 1.49% to 68,752, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 1.40% to 24,681 to a one-month high. India’s Sensex added 0.17% and Thailand’s SET gained 0.26%, buoyed by the benign US CPI print, though Shenzhen slipped 0.68% on semiconductor-sector weakness.
European markets were mixed at the open. The EuroStoxx 50 rose 0.22% to 6,294 and the ASX 200 gained 0.37%, while London’s FTSE 100 slipped 0.16% to 10,513. Investors weighed easing US inflation against firmer oil prices and lingering geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, keeping regional risk appetite broadly steady across major bourses.
