MARKET REVIEW
Wall Street retreated on Tuesday as elevated oil prices and uncertainty over a Strait of Hormuz reopening kept investors cautious ahead of US inflation data. The S&P 500 fell 0.32%, the Nasdaq lost 0.60%, and the Dow Jones declined 0.34%. In Europe, the EuroStoxx 50 gained 0.24%, with energy shares supported by firmer crude.
Oil extended its gains as negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz remained headline driven. Brent settled at USD 89.62/barrel, up 0.80%, while WTI traded above USD 83/barrel. Gold rose 0.49% to USD 4,383/oz, as traders weighed potential supply relief against US inflation data and the Federal Reserve outlook.
The JCI fell 1.53% to 6,268 on Tuesday, pressured by broad-based selling. The rupiah weakened to IDR 17,840/USD, while foreign investors recorded net sells of IDR 279.98 bn. Losses in banks, autos and heavyweight technology names outweighed gains elsewhere.
