• Automotive: The government intends to change the electric motorbike
subsidy program into a PPN DTP incentive
The government has sent a signal that there will be a change in the subsidy policy for electric
motorbike purchases in Indonesia in 2025. Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Reza, said that
the electric motorbike subsidy program would be replaced with incentives in the form of
Government Borne Value Added Tax (PPN DTP). The government is still discussing the policy
mechanism and has not explained when this incentive will be implemented. In 2024, the
Ministry of Industry rolled out a subsidy assistance program for the purchase of new electric
motorbikes worth IDR 7M per unit. This program is selling well, considering the conditions
are quite easy. Namely, people just need to include their NIK KTP to purchase one electric
motorbike. As a result, the initial quota set by the government of 50,000 units could run out
in mid-2024. The government also increased the quota for subsidized electric motorbikes by
around 10,000 units on Aug 24 and they were quickly absorbed by the public. General Chair
of the Indonesian Electric Motorcycle Industry Association (Aismoli), Budi Setiyadi, admitted
that his party needs confirmation on whether the electric motorbike subsidy program will
continue, including the mechanism. This is because many consumers are delaying
purchasing electric motorbikes as long as there is no clarity regarding the fate of subsidies
or product incentives. (Kontan)
