MARKET REVIEW
Wall Street weakened on Monday as renewed uncertainty over reopening the Strait of Hormuz lifted oil prices and revived inflation concerns. The S&P 500 slipped 0.06%, the Nasdaq declined 0.32%, and the Dow Jones fell 0.11%. In Europe, the EuroStoxx 50 rose 0.18%, with energy shares supported by higher crude prices.
WTI traded at USD 82.11/barrel after closing 5.1% higher, while Brent settled at USD 87.72/barrel, up 4.99%, as prospects for reopening Hormuz dimmed. Gold gained 0.49% to USD 4,362/oz, supported by geopolitical uncertainty and ahead of key US inflation data this week.
The JCI closed down 0.69% at 6,365 on Monday, pressured by broad selling. Meanwhile, foreign investors recorded net sells of IDR 875.51 bn, even as the rupiah strengthened to IDR 17,762/USD. Losses in major telecom, bank and renewable-energy names outweighed commodity gains.
